Katja Thoring

Katja Thoring is a product designer and an unconventional thinker with a focus on conceptual design. She began her creative career as a decorator, going on to study Industrial Design at the University of Arts Berlin and the California College of Arts and Crafts San Francisco. During her job at "frogdesign" in the field of interface and interaction design, she developed a strong interest for digital products and usability. This inspired her to start her own design company “Thoring Design”, where she creates products, corporate designs and interfaces. Since Katja likes talking about her work and ideas, she occasionally holds lectures and workshops on the topics of creativity, innovation and design methodology at conventions or in companies.

Since 2009, Katja is a professor at the Design Department at the Anhalt University of Applied Sciences in Dessau. Her teaching focuses on the communication of 2- and 3-dimensional design basics, as well as user-oriented design to fix daily problems, large and small.

Katja draws her inspiration from her travels through European metropolises, from observing people and from photographing everyday objects such as trashcans or door knobs.
