Hasso-Plattner-Institut für Softwaresystemtechnik

Martina Schuh

„Sure!“, said Martina when she was asked: „Can you attend the first D-School boot camp in Potsdam in two days”? Since then, she comes back every year with some of her colleagues to deliver an introductory Design Thinking class.

Martina has a Diploma in Biology and Computer Science from the University of Marburg, Germany and a Ph.D. in Behavioral Ecology. Today she looks back at more than 15 years of experience in the software industry. Since 2005, the year of its foundation she works as a Design Consultant in the SAP Design Services Team. The team was founded by Hasso Plattner to spread the Design Thinking approach inside of SAP as part of the company’s innovation strategy. The team successfully applied Design Thinking to a wide range of topics such as service and process design, and is currently focusing on technical innovations and their practical application for creating software. Since then Martina led numerous Design Thinking projects and she has trained more than 1000 colleagues worldwide in Design Thinking. Especially these concrete experiences from real projects are highly appreciated at D-School.

Her application-oriented classes enable new D-School students to experience the power of Design Thinking in just four days. In addition, Martina plays an active role in the seminar „Trends & concepts in the software industry” which is offered once a year for masters degree students at the Hasso-Plattner Institute (HPI) in the area of IT Systems Engineering, and she regularly supports D-School classes run by Stanford professors. „All these experiences are really inspiring for my own work at SAP.”
