Social Reputation in Digital Worlds

Reputation is used in our social communities as a tool of regulating society by circulating evaluations about people as well as things. It has been also an important tool in computer science, especially after the emergence of e-markets. In this course, reputation systems, their main use and differences will be discussed. The course also covers: examples of reputation systems on famous sites, design guidelines, and connections to the real world.

Course Objectives

After completing this course successfully, the student can:

  •  Describe the objectives and capabilities of reputation systems
  •  Analyze the pros and cons of a reputation system in its contexts
  •  Carry out theoretical, empirical, experimental, or applied research
  •  See different research opportunities
  •  Present the results

Assessment Method

Students select a research topic from the introduced topics, and get 50% on the paper. Students earn the remaining 50% by first presenting and discussing the paper with the rest of the group, and second by implementing a small project (per team). A short abstract must be submitted and approved prior to writing the paper.
