Sino-German Forum on “Digital University and High Education” in conjunction with “5. tele-TASK Symposium”
September 15-19, 2010, Beijing, China
Introduction:
With rapid development and expanding deployment of tele-Teaching and e-Learning techniques, many issues need to be further addressed. On the technical side, a large number of new IT techniques, spanning from multimedia and human-machine-interaction to network and communication, have been emerged in recent years which significantly promoted more and more modern tele-Teaching and e-Learning approaches and equipments. How to more efficiently benefit from these newly emerged IT techniques and create high quality virtual teaching and learning environment is always a challenge. On the pedagogy and management side, a lot of successful experiences and best practices of tele-Teaching and e-Learning have greatly triggered the interests of educators, researchers and developers. To push forward new applications of advanced tele-Education techniques, especially, create appropriate tele-Education based teaching programs, learning methods, as well as related models, polices, and regulations for formal high education, now becomes an attractive issue for the community. The establishment of pure Internet-based “Digital University” is a promising direction being confronted with various problems.
Goals:
The forum will bring together recognized researchers and educators from both Germany and China to carry out in-depth discussion and study of the technical, pedagogical, as well as social and management issues of tele-Education. The forum aims at providing such a platform that scientists from both countries can introduce their recent work and results on tele-Teaching/e-Learning techniques and their experiences and successful stories on using tele-Education approaches in the daily teaching practice. It is also expected that more collaborative activities between the tele-Education communities from both countries can be promoted. In particular, we will discuss and put forward the initiative to co-build Sino-German digital universities or tele-teaching and e-Learning centers for educational and cultural communications between two countries. The goals of the forum are specified as:
- Present the state-of-the-art tele-Teaching and e-Learning techniques, especially, their applications in Germany and China.
- Explore concepts and examples of good practice in developing, integrating and delivering tele-Teaching and e-Learning solutions.
- Preview the next step development of tele-Education techniques and tele-Teaching based high education programs and strategies.
- Build a joint Sino-German tele-Education community and construct a stable dialogue and communication mechanism between bilateral scientists.
- Promote more collaborative projects and programs on research and education in the area of tele-Education.
- Discuss the initiative to build a central “Digital University” framework for unifying and integrating the tele-Education techniques and resources from both countries.
