Introduction

This project is a cooperative E-learning/Tele-teaching project between the "Hasso-Plattner-Institut für Softwaresystemtechnik (HPI) of University of Potsdam and College of Computer Science and Technology of the Beijing University of Technology. The teaching cooperation between Potsdam and Beijing was led by Prof. Dr. Christoph Meinel and formally launched on 26th September 2005.  The first day's lecture of the Internet-Bridge Potsdam-Beijing is "Internet Security" given by Prof. Dr. Christoph Meinel at HPI, Potsdam. This lecture has proved to be a great success start of this project. Supported by  a sophisticated Tele-teaching/e-learning technique, nearly fifty Chinese IT students in Beijing have been able to synchronously  joined the lecture with German students over the Internet.

  • 17.11.2011: The third international branch of HPI research school was opened at Nanjing University (NJU). The research focus of this newly built research school is "Mass Data Analytics and Knowledge Discovery". Prof. Jun Chen, President of NJU, Prof. Hasso Plattner, founder and professor of HPI and co-founder and chairman of supervisory board of SAP, Dr. Wolfgang Röhr, German General Consulate in Shanghai, Mr. Xiqiang Wu, Deputy director of the Jiangsu provincial office of international affairs, Prof. Gangshan Wu, head of CS Department at NJU, Prof. Meinel, President of HPI, Prof. Fangmin Song, Speaker of HPI research school at NJU, were present and gave their greeting speeches at the opening ceremony. Prof. Andreas Polze, Prof. Robert Hirschfeld, Dr. Feng Cheng and four PhD students from HPI research school in Potsdam also participated the opening ceremony.   • 16.11.2011: Prof. Christoph Meinel and Dr. Feng Cheng were invited to visit ZMCloud Co. Ltd, which a major vender of cloud services in China.   • 15.11.2011: Prof. Christoph Meinel and Dr. Feng Cheng were invited to visit the Computer School of Engineering and Science at Shanghai University.   • 15.10.2011: The tele-lecture "Internet Security: Weakness and Target" for WS2011 start from this week. Follow it on BJUT-Vod or tele-TASK. It is the tenth time of this lecture at BJUT.
  • 22.08.2011: We just got our grant-proposal approved by DFG-NSFC center in Beijing to support the Sino-German workshop on "Cloud-based High Performance Computing" in Shanghai, Sept. 26-Oct. 1, 2011. 
  • 09.04.2011: Onsite examination for the tele-lecture in WS2010 has been carried out today at Beijing University of Technology (BJUT). In this year, there are 25 master students taking the oral examination. See here for the picture.
  • 07.04.2011: Prof. Christoph Meinel, Dr. Feng Cheng, and Sebastian Roschke visited the Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (BUAA) and met with Prof. Xiaoqing Tang (VP, BUAA) and many other BUAA professors. Here are some reports: EN/CN.  
  • 08.09.2010: Lectures for the winter semester 2010 is starting in this week. The recordings will be published both on the lecture series of tele-TASK and the lecture series of Video&Audio Space of Education-Online System at BJUT.

Lectures

"Internet Security - Weaknesses and Targets" is based on "Internet- & WWW-Technologies" and gives a detailed introduction on problems concerning Internet and Intranet security. After starting with some remarks on risk analysis and computer crimes, security weaknesses and targets are discussed in detail. Beside others the following topics are discussed in detail: human factor and technical failures, attacks on accounts and passwords, attacks on Internet protocol, misuse of design and programming errors, weaknesses in common operating systems, targets in the WWW, and viruses. The lecture course concludes with a discussion about the possibilities to detect attacks and intrusions and also describes ethical issuses.

 This tele-teaching lecture started from the winter semester 2002. Now it is the 10th time transmission. Hundreds of master students at CS-School of BJUT have successfully participated in our lecture. More information can be found here.

Our Team

Background

Internet-Bridge Potsdam-Beijing is the extension of the former cooperation project, Internet Bridge Trier-Beijing, between University of Trier and Beijing University of Technology from October 2002. The Internet-Bridge Potsdam-Beijing will be a regular and long term collaborative activity in the computer science education fields  between Germany and China. Also, in the framework of the Internet-Bridge Potsdam-Beijing,  two groups of Chinese students have been studied at HPI for a doctoral degree since October 2001.

The technique used for recording the lectures and transmitting them over the Internet is the tele-TASK technology  which was developed at HPI. The lecture courses will end with an oral examination at HPI for German students at HPI and for Chinese students in Beijing.
