Project: Evaluation of Multicore Query Execution Techniques for Linked Open Data

Abstract: Managing and querying Linked Open Data poses several challenges on database systems. The huge amount of data, the large number of sources, the structure (triples, graph structures) and characteristics (mainly string data), and the kind of queries (graph patterns) require to rethink classic query processing techniques. In this proposal, we plan to address some of these challenges with an in-memory query engine exploiting features of modern hardware (cache hierarchies, multicore processors, big memory). The goal of the project is to evaluate and improve newly developed indexing and parallelization techniques for queries on linked data on multicore systems.
