Project: Detecting biogeographical barriers – testing and putting beta diversity on a map

Abstract: Inspired by McKnight et al. (2007), one application which we are currently exploring, is to calculate species turnover (very similar to beta diversity) for the whole region. The main aim is to discover biogeographical boundaries which are reflected by relatively high species turnover. The identification of biogeographical zones has important implications for urgently required conservation actions (e.g. see Penner et al. 2011).
